[Recent Amendments on Indirect Tax]

Last year, the Federal Government had amended the Sales Tax and Service Tax legislation which take effect from 1 January 2020. However, the MOF has proposed to extend the provisions for service tax exemption due to the expansion of the scope of service tax and to address the issue of prices increases and double taxation (cascading effect) on consumers. The key changes include the expansion of scope for service tax and extension of the business to business (B2B) exemptions for service tax.
